IB Book Blogging Mini Challenge

**Contains spoilers for Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove

Another challenge issued today involved creating your dream guy from your favorite book boyfriends from our friends over at IB Book Blogging.

I have to admit I struggled with this one.I know I’m supposed to compile a frankenstein boyfriend and I suppose I could. I mean from Snape’s love for Lily to Mr. Darcy’s immovable dogmatism, there are ample men in literature who make my heart go pitter patter. But truth be told my true love will forever be Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove

Sure he can be a lazy sod, but his good humor, zest for life, dedication to honor, and generosity of spirit make him utterly perfect in my book. But it was his love stories with Lori, Clara, and Woodrow that made me forever fall hopelessly in love.

And okay the fact that he may have been played by Robert Duvall in the television adaptation sure doesn’t hurt. But more than anything, McCrae’s death in the book marked the first time I cried so hard while reading a book that I had to put it down. I first read this book when I was 14 years old and my love for Gus has stood the test of time. Even as I find myself understanding and appreciating the character of Woodrow more as I get older, it will forever by Augustus McCrae who has my heart.

Better Read Than Dead Mini Challenge

Taking a peek back into this slice of the interwebz in order to accomplish a mini-challenge! I’ve actually been pretty bad about this because I’ve been in the reading zone like whoa! I felt like a decadent 18th century  lady of leisure today as I lolled about reading and napping and reading some more. But enough about that-we’re here for a challenge and this one is a doozy! Better Read Than Dead asked this question:

You're in a bookstore and you've just purchased 5 books you've been dying to read, when the apocalypse hits. (Zombie, Demons, Vampires, Dean Winchester vs. Sam Winchester (yes, I'm watching Supernatural reruns) I don't care what apocalypse). You've got one chance at survival, what 2 books do you take and what 3 other items do you take?

Okay guys first lets talk about my extreme zombie obsession. How bad is it? I’m an academic who literally is making a career out of all things zombie and horror so to say this is in my wheelhouse is an understatement. After careful consideration, here are my choices:

Books:
  1. When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes because I’m nothing if not practical.
  2. Workin' It!: RuPaul's Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style because if I’m going out, I’m going out looking GOOD!
3 Other Items:
  1. Running Shoes (I’m not going out like Otis on Walking Dead, ya’ll!)
  2. A Crossbow (I like weapons that are reusable)
  3. The key to the local library (Cause lets get real. When all hell breaks out I want to read and lull myself into a false sense of security. Plus there’s music for an end times remix!)

Readathon!

It has been a spell since I wrote an official blog post and lots has happened in the interim. To give you a sense of things I very seriously considered starting a new blog: “SPLAT: My Life Went to Hell So I Decided to Blog About It.”

But that seemed more glass half full so instead I’m dusting off this old blog to chat about books!!

Specifically, I am going to be taking part in my first ever Readathon! The lovely ladies at Reading Angels, Candace’s Book Blog, and Pure Imagination are hosting a readathon to take place from 12:01 am on July 9th to 11:59 pm on July 11th. If you want to join-and you know you do-time is short so head over to one of the blogs immediately and sign up!

HAPPY READING!
